Jan Ivan Lelley

Jan Ivan Lelley (born September 8, 1938 in Neutra , now the Slovak Republic) is a Hungarian-German mycologist , adjunct professor at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn and managing director of the Society for Applied Mycology and Environmental Studies (GAMU), Institute for Mushroom Research, in Krefeld .

Life

Lelley studied agricultural sciences in Hungary ( Budapest and Gödöllő ) from 1956 to 1961, specializing in mycology, and then worked as a research assistant at the State Institute for Agrobotany in Tápiószele . He received his doctorate in 1963 for Doctorem Scientiarium Agriculturae. He left Hungary in 1967 and moved to the Federal Republic of Germany. After working for international companies in the pesticide industry (Merck and CIBA) and at the Institute for Weed Research of the Federal Biological Research Center for Agriculture and Forestry (today JKI ) in Hürth-Fischenich and Braunschweig, he took over the management of the Research Institute for Mushroom Cultivation of the Chamber of Agriculture in 1973 Rhineland in Krefeld. In 1982 Lelley completed his habilitation at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Bonn and received the Venia Legendi for the subject “Mycology, especially applied mycology”. In 1987 Lelley was appointed adjunct professor by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia .

In 1997 the Rhineland Chamber of Agriculture closed several of its facilities and locations due to the very tight financial situation. This also applies to the Krefeld-Großhüttenhof location with the research institutes located there. At this time the GAMU had already started its business activities, which Lelley, together with employees of the research institute, founded in 1993. In 1998, Lelley took over the management of GAMU and still holds this position today. After several reorganizations, the GAMU is now primarily concerned with researching mushrooms with healing powers and with the development and distribution of products made from mushrooms with healing powers. Lelley is also active as a consultant and specialist in various fields of applied mycology (macromycetes) at home and abroad.

In 1994 Lelley was awarded the China Mushroom City Honorary Mushroom Farmer in Qingyuan , People's Republic of China . In 1996 he received the “ Pro Cultura Fungorum Hungarica ” award in Hungary. In 1998, the Department of Horticultural Sciences awarded him the Corvinus University of Budapest , the honorary doctorate in appreciation of his scientific and internationally recognized work in the fields of mycology and applied the cultivation of edible mushrooms. Also in 1998, he was publicly appointed and sworn in as an expert at the North Rhine-Westphalia Chamber of Agriculture for the field of special crops and mushroom cultivation. In 2007 Lelley was elected a foreign member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences .
