Jan Kuhnert (born December 5, 1951 in Berlin ) is a politician and housing management consultant , former member of the Green Party and former member of the Hessian state parliament .

After graduating from high school, which he passed in Porz in 1972, Jan Kuhnert studied education, sociology and politics at the Philipps University of Marburg . From 1974 to 1981 he was a research associate in the "Research Group for Social History of Education in the GDR" at the University of Marburg with a focus on the history of vocational training, international comparison of technological developments and environmental problems.

After working in the anti-nuclear movement, he was a founding member of the Green List Environmental Protection, State Association of Hesse, in 1978 and, in 1979, State Chairman of the Green List Environmental Protection in Hesse. Also in 1979 he became a founding member of the Greens and a member of the Federal Program Commission.

Kuhnert was a city councilor in Marburg from March 1981 to October 1982. After the local elections in Hesse in 1981 , attempts were made in Marburg to forge a traffic light alliance . Kuhnert was elected chairman of the building committee for this alliance. This failed in the process after Jan Kuhnert, as chairman of the building committee, took part in a demonstration in Marburg against Prime Minister Holger Börner (SPD) and the SPD then ended the cooperation.

Between December 1982 and April 1985 he was a parliamentary group assistant in the parliamentary group of the Greens. Due to the principle of rotation, he replaced Marita Haibach in the Hessian state parliament on April 15, 1985 , to which he was a member until the early end of the 1987 electoral term. Kuhnert has since resigned from the Green Party, was in the meantime managing director of the Gesellschaft für Bauen und Wohnen Hannover mbH (GBH) and is the managing partner of the housing industry KUB Kommunal- und Unternehmensberatung GmbH.

Kuhnert was a co-initiator of the Berlin rent referendum and is chairman of the board of the Federal Association for the Promotion of the Cooperative Idea and member of the board of the housing supply Berlin - public law institution , which controls and evaluates the six Berlin state housing companies and writes political guidelines on them. Kuhnert is committed to the reintroduction of non-profit housing in Germany.
