Marita Haibach

Marita Haibach (born February 7, 1953 in Gemünden ) is a former Hessian politician ( Die Grünen ), member of the Hessian state parliament and state secretary for women's affairs. Since the early 1990s she has been committed to the development of civic engagement, philanthropy and fundraising in Germany and throughout Europe.

Education and family

Haibach completed an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk in Frankfurt am Main from 1968 to 1970 after completing elementary and commercial school and worked in the training company from 1970 to 1972. She then studied at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences and graduated in 1975 as a qualified interpreter (English and Spanish). She then studied American studies, political science and history at the University of Frankfurt and graduated in 1981 with a master's degree and the first state examination. In 1994 she was by the Free University of Berlin to Dr. phil. PhD.

Haibach is married and has one grown son. Her husband Juan Carlos Núñez Hinojosa ("Juanka") is a percussionist and founder and long-time director of the Cuban music group Cohimbre . She manages her husband's music and drumming activities.

politics

In the state elections in Hesse in 1982 , representatives of the Greens, including Marita Haibach, who was a candidate in the constituency of Hochtaunus I , were elected to the state parliament for the first time. Holger Börner's attempt to govern by means of a minority government ("Hessian conditions") failed after a few months. In the early state elections in Hesse in 1983 , Haibach, which this time ran in the constituency of Hochtaunus II , was re-elected from her party's state list. Due to the rotation principle practiced by the Greens at the time , she had to give up her mandate on April 15, 1985.

After the formation of the first Red-Green coalition , she joined the Börner III cabinet on December 12, 1985 as State Secretary for Women's Affairs . With the failure of this coalition on February 9, 1987 and the resulting new election, she lost office at the end of April 1987.

Fundraising and Philanthropy

After leaving politics, she continued her studies and academic work in the USA , specializing in fundraising . Since returning to Germany in 1991, Haibach has been working as an independent fundraising and management consultant. From 2003 to 2007 she was Managing Director of the German branch of the international consulting firm Brakeley Limited . Since 2007 she has been working again as an independent consultant, trainer and coach. She is one of the initiators of the Major Giving Institute, which has been offering comprehensive training to become a “large donation fundraiser” since 2013.

Publications

On the subject of fundraising and philanthropy in Germany and the USA, Haibach published numerous articles in compilations and magazines. She is the author of several books, including Handbuch Fundraising (Campus Verlag, 5th ed. 2019), Hochschul-Fundraising - Ein Handbuch für die Praxis (Campus Verlag, 2008), Fundraising: Donations, Sponsoring, Stiftungen (Campus Verlag, 1996), Women inherit differently: dealing courageously with wealth (Ulrike Helmer Verlag 2001) and the women's movement in philanthropy: women are changing the world of foundations in the USA (Maecenata, 1997).

In her study Large Donations in Germany: Ways to More Philanthropy (2010) she examines the reasons why the potential for large donations in this country is still largely untapped. In 2017, together with Jan Uekermann, she published a basic work for the acquisition of large donations in German-speaking countries with the title Large Donation Fundraising - Ways to More Philanthropy. Volunteering

From 1996 to 2002, Marita Haibach played a key role in the development of the German Fundraising Association as deputy chairwoman . Together with Thomas Kreuzer, she is co-initiator of the Fundraising Academy and was chair of the examination committee from 2000 to 2008. Haibach is one of the initiators of the European Fundraising Association (EFA), the umbrella organization of fundraising associations in Europe, and was its president from 2004 to 2008. She is one of the founders of the Filia women's foundation and the Pecunia heiress network .

From 1999 to 2011 she was Country Ambassador of the Resource Alliance for Germany. Haibach was a member of the Karin Burmeister Foundation from 1998 to 2014. From 2004 to 2014 she was Deputy Chairwoman of the Citoyen Foundation and from 2015 to 2019 a member of the Board of Trustees of the Hildesheim University Foundation . Since 2015 she has been a member of the board of trustees of the Foundation Together_Waxing and the State Foundation MITEINANDER IN HESSEN.

Honors

  • In 2009 she was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, First Class.
  • In 2010 she was awarded the German Fundraising Prize.
  • She is an honorary member of the Pecunia Heiress Network.
