The Börner III cabinet formed the state government of Hesse from July 4, 1984 to April 24, 1987 .

After the state elections in 1983 , the coalition negotiations turned out to be extremely difficult, which is why the previous government initially remained in office. With the re-election of Holger Börner as Prime Minister on June 7, 1984, the way was cleared for the formation of an SPD minority government tolerated by the Greens . On December 12, 1985, the Greens were awarded a cabinet position at state level for the first time in Germany with the post of State Minister for the Environment and Energy.
