Jan Marinus Wiersma

Jan Marinus Wiersma (born August 26, 1951 in Groningen ) is a Dutch politician of the Partij van de Arbeid .

Life

After finishing school in Groningen, Wiersma studied history at the University of Groningen and graduated in 1978. Wiersma began to get involved in politics and became a member of the social democratic Partij van de Arbeid. From 1978 to 1987 he was a member of the Second Chamber of the States General . From 1994 to 2009 he was a member of the European Parliament . From July 20, 2004 to July 13, 2009 Wiersma was Vice-President of the Party of European Socialists (PES). Wiersma currently lives in Leiden , and has published several articles in various specialist journals on European policy issues.
