Jan Schmidt (born February 8, 1971 in Stollberg ) is a former German soccer player. He began his career in GDR times at BSG Wismut Aue and played for the club in the GDR upper league . After reunification he played for Chemnitzer FC in the 2nd Bundesliga .

Career

For the 1981/90 season Jan Schmidt rose to the GDR upper league team of BSG Wismut Aue . He made his debut in the top league in GDR football on March 17, 1990 against Dynamo Dresden . In the 1-1 draw, he was called up by coach Jürgen Escher in the starting line-up. After reunification he remained loyal to Aue and played for FC Wismut Aue and FC Erzgebirge Aue until 1994 . For the 1994/96 season Schmidt joined the TeBe Berlin and returned to FC Erzgebirge Aue after one season.

For the 1996/97 season Jan Schmidt left Aue and moved to league rivals Dynamo Dresden . After two seasons in Dresden, he went to Chemnitzer FC for the 1998/99 season and was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga with them. In the season In the winter break of the 1999/00 season, Schmidt was loaned out to VFC Plauen for six months . Jan Schmidt ended his career in the 2003/04 season at VfB Leipzig .
