Jan Staszel (born September 15, 1950 in Dzianisz ) is a former Polish cross-country skier .

Career

Staszel, who started Zakopane for the first time, appeared internationally in the 1970/71 season. At the 1971 Army Spartakiade in Zakopane , he took fourth place over 15 km and second place with the relay. In February 1971 he was Polish champion over 30 km and won the following month at the Czech Marusarzówna Memorial in Zakopane for the first time over 15 km. He also ran there in second place with the relay. In Murmansk a week later he came in third place with the relay. At the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo , he finished 33rd over 15 km and 29th over 30 km. In March 1972 he triumphed over 30 km at the Tatrapokal in Štrbské Pleso and at the Czech Marusarzówna Memorial over 15 km. He had his greatest international success at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1974 in Falun . There he won the bronze medal over 30 km and achieved 25th place over 15 km. In March 1974 he won again at the Czech Marusarzówna Memorial over 15 km and took third place over 15 km in Le Brassus in January 1975 . In 1976 and 1977 he won the Czech Marusarzówna Memorial with the relay. At the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck in February 1976 , he ran to 40th place over 15 km, 24th place over 30 km and together with Wiesław Gębala , Jan Dragon and Władysław Podgórski on 13th place with the relay.
