Janez Jazbec (born December 27, 1984 in Kranj ) is a Slovenian ski racer . His strongest discipline is the giant slalom .

biography

Jazbec contested his first FIS races in November 1999, the first victory followed in March 2004. From 2002 to 2004 he took part in three Junior World Championships , with his best result of 20th place in the Super-G in Maribor in 2004 .

In the European Cup Jazbec is since December 2003, mainly in Giant Slalom and Slalom race at the start. At the end of November 2006, the Slovenian finished in the top ten for the first time in the first giant slalom in Levi , but two weeks later he had to end the season due to an injury. In the following winter he had to take a long break and was only able to take part in races again in March. In the European Cup season 2008/09 he reached tenth place in the giant slalom ranking with four top 10 places. On December 2nd, 2009 he achieved his first podium finish with third place in the giant slalom in Val Thorens .

In addition to the European Cup races, Jazbec has also been used in giant slaloms in the World Cup since December 2004 . In his seventh World Cup race, the giant slalom in Val-d'Isère on December 13, 2009, he scored his first World Cup points with 21st place. Since then he has been in the World Cup more often, but was unable to score a second time in the next two years. At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver - his first and so far only major event - he came 19th in the giant slalom.

On January 15, 2012, Jazbec celebrated his first European Cup victory in the giant slalom in Méribel . A month later he was able to score for the second time in the World Cup, with 18th place in the giant slalom in Bansko, his best ever World Cup result.
