Jang Ji-won ( Korean 장지원 ; born August 30, 1979 ) is a South Korean Taekwondoin and Olympic champion . She started in the Olympic weight class up to 57 kilograms.

Career

Jang Ji-won achieved her first major international title win in Hong Kong in 2000 by winning the Asian Championship in the 59 kilogram class. The following year she defeated Sonia Reyes 9: 7 in the semifinals at the World Championships in Jeju in the same weight class after three opening successes , before defeating Iridia Salazar 5: 2 in the final .

In 2003 she qualified for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens . In the class up to 57 kilograms she met Iridia Salazar again after two victories in the semifinals and won the fight 2-1. With the same result, she defeated Nia Abdallah in the final and became Olympic champion .
