Jangdae Hill

The Jangdae Hill is a survey in the North Korean capital Pyongyang in the district Chung-guyok . The hill belongs to Jongro-dong County , is west of Sungri Street and is best known as the site of the monumental mosaics in honor of the former rulers Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il .

history

According to North Korean sources, Jangdae Hill is considered the starting point for the March 1st movement . In a school on the hill at noon on March 1, 1919, people are said to have gathered to declare Korea's independence from the Japanese Empire and then to go to demonstrations.

In the Korean War the terrain as the bulk of Pyongyang, was destroyed.

Buildings

Pyongyang's first student palace , which has existed since September 30, 1963, is located on the hill . It offers places for 4,000 students. In front of it is a statue depicting Kim Il-sung with students.

Leader mosaics

Guide mosaics on Jangdae Hill

The two mosaics by Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il placed on the hill are characteristic of the cityscape . They symbolize the "immortality" of the former rulers (see also Tower of Immortality ). The image of Kim Jong-il was added to the existing mosaic by Kim Il-sung during a ceremonial unveiling ceremony on April 10, 2012, attended by 60,000 people.

The two pictures have a height of 16.60 meters and a total length of 51 meters. On it, the two former rulers are framed by magnolias , a national symbol of North Korea . Underneath, in Korean script, are the sentences “The great leader Comrade Kim Il-sung will always be with us” and “The great leader Comrade Kim Jong-il will always be with us”.
