Jan Tordh Ingemar "Janne" Karlsson (born August 28, 1958 in Växjö ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player and current coach .
Career
Janne Karlsson began his career as a ice hockey player with HV71 , for whose professional team he made his debut in the then second-rate Division 1 in the 1977/78 season . In the 1978/79 season , the defender and his team were promoted to the Elitserien , but they had to accept direct relegation to Division 1 in the following season . For the 1981/82 season he joined the Västra Frölunda HC from the Elitserien, with whom he also relegated to Division 1 in the 1983/84 season. It was not until the 1988/89 season that the left-handed shooter led the club as team captain for promotion to the Elitserien. He last played for the second division Mörrums GoIS IK from 1990 to 1993 . He then worked there as head coach from 1993 to 1995.
Between 1997 and 2000 Karlsson was active as a coach in the youth department of his ex-club Västra Frölunda HC. There he was appointed assistant coach of the professional team from the Elitserien for the 2000/01 season , with whom he won the national championship title in the 2002/03 season. In the course of the 2003/04 season he replaced Conny Evensson as head coach at Frölunda and was again champion with the team in the following season . In addition to his work for Frölunda, he was also the assistant coach of the Swedish national team under Bengt-Åke Gustafsson from 2004 to 2006 , with which he won gold medals at the 2006 Winter Olympics and then at the World Championships .
Following the 2005/06 season , Karlsson left Frölunda HC and became Gunnar Persson's assistant at Linköpings HC . He replaced this in the course of his first year as head coach. In summer 2008 he left the LHC and returned to Frölunda HC as an assistant. For the 2009/10 season the Swede was signed by the HV71, with which he also won the championship title straight away. In the following season he led the HV71 to first place in the main round. For the 2011/12 season Karlsson moved abroad for the first time and signed a contract as an assistant coach at Atlant Mytishchi from the Continental Hockey League . Like in the national team, he worked there with Bengt-Åke Gustafsson, whom he replaced as head coach in November 2011. On October 20, 2012, he was dismissed by Atlant Mytishchi and replaced by the previous assistant coach Alexander Smirnow . In January 2013 he took over the post of head coach at Rögle BK and replaced the Norwegian Dan Tangnes in this position .
