Janus is the title of an Austrian crime series that was produced by MR Film on behalf of ORF in 2012 . The first broadcast took place on October 1, 2013 on ORFeins . The thriller shows psychologically charged, brutal violent crimes.
background
The forensic psychologist Leo Benedikt and the detective inspector Cara Horvath are on the trail of the secret of the opaque pharmaceutical company "Janus". This pharmaceutical company is apparently researching a new drug against schizophrenia and is not afraid to try it on people. As collateral damage, numerous people commit suicide by running their heads against walls to escape from an imaginary maze.
In each episode there is also a criminal case that either directly affects Leo Benedikt or is related to the pharmaceutical case throughout. In episode 2 mother and daughter suffer from psychopathy , in episode 4 the proof of the theory of the perfect murder is attempted, in episode 5 Leo Benedikt first diagnoses foliage à deux until he realizes that only one of the spouses is delusional .
The screenplay was written by Jacob Groll and Sarah Wassermair and directed by Andreas Kopriva .
main characters
Dr. Leo Benedict
Is a psychologist and married to Agnes. Want to solve the mystery of the mysterious "Janus" company. "Leo is very vulnerable, marriage gnaws at him. He is also very neurotic and a workaholic who can neither switch off from his strange love for his wife nor from his work." (Quote from Alexander Pschill )
Dr. Agnes Benedict
Works as a pharmacologist at Janus to find an effective drug for a disease she and her son are suffering from.
Cara Horvath
Is a district inspector at a police station, often works with Leo. The two want to work together to find out about Janus' dark machinations. In addition, she is in love with Leo, tries to "forget" her love, but cannot. Cara Horvath is a very sensitive person who conveys a rather cold image to the outside world.
Dr. Konstantin Fink
Is a prosecutor and Leo's best friend.
Miriam Karner
Assistant to Leo and friend of Constantine. She commits suicide in episode 3 after being given one of the pills by Janus.
Junior
Is the security chief of the "Janus" concern. His father was the director of the concern.
The Janus Group
Not much is known about him, apart from the fact that it is a pharmaceutical company that has set itself the task of curing schizophrenia. He does not shrink from trying on people. The strings are obviously being pulled by very (politically and economically) powerful people.
Previously known figures in the Janus Group:
- Dr. Agnes Benedikt ( Barbara Romaner ): pharmacologist active in research
- Junior ( Christopher Schärf ): Head of Security
- Dr. Lorenz Laudon ( Karl Fischer ): Head of Science
- Senior ( Heinz Trixner ): Economic boss
- Sebastian Afshar ( Morteza Tavakoli ): research associate, works closely with Dr. Agnes Benedikt together
- "You" ( Anna Tenta ): One of the owners
