Janusz Urbańczyk (born May 19, 1967 in Kraszewice , Poland ) is a Roman Catholic clergyman and diplomat of the Holy See .

Life

Janusz Urbańczyk was ordained a priest on June 13, 1992 after studying philosophy and theology and was incardinated in the diocese of Elbląg . In 1993 he entered the Pontifical Diplomatic Academy and completed a doctoral degree in canon law.

He was secretary in the nunciatures in Bolivia (1997–2000), Slovakia (2000–2004), New Zealand (2004–2007) and the nunciature council in Kenya (2007–2010) as well as in Slovenia and Macedonia (2010–2012). In 2012 he became Director of the Permanent Observer of the Holy See at the United Nations (UN) in New York .

Janusz Urbańczyk was appointed by Pope Francis on January 19, 2015 as the new Vatican representative in Vienna to the International Atomic Energy Agency (AIEA) and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) . He will also represent the Permanent Observer of the Holy See at the United Nations (UN) in New York in Vienna. He will also represent the Vatican in the Organization of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBTO) and in the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (ONUDI) .
