James Michael Ryan
James Michael Ryan OFM (also Tiago Miguel Ryan ; born November 17, 1912 in Chicago ; † July 12, 2002 ibid) was an American religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Santarém .
Life
Ryan joined the Franciscan Order and was ordained a priest on June 24, 1938 .
Pope Pius XII appointed him on January 31, 1958 as prelate of Santarém and titular bishop of Margum . The Pro-Prefect of the Congregatio de Propaganda Fide , Samuel Alphonse Cardinal Stritch , donated him episcopal ordination on April 9 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Alberto Gaudêncio Ramos , Archbishop of Belém do Pará , and Henry Ambrose Pinger OFM, Former Bishop of Zhoucun .
He attended all the sessions of the Second Vatican Council . On May 26, 1978 he renounced his titular bishopric as part of the new allocation guidelines of the Roman Curia . Pope John Paul II elevated the territorial prelature to a diocese on December 4, 1979 and appointed him the first bishop of Santarém. He resigned from his office on November 27, 1985.
