The synagogue in Hranice na Moravě (German Mährisch Weißkirchen ), a town in the Olomouc Region ( Olomoucký kraj ) in the Czech Republic , was built in 1863/64. The derelict synagogue has been a protected cultural monument since 1988 .

history

In the Jewish street , a row of houses on the western wall, stood the old synagogue. It was demolished in the early 1860s and the new synagogue was built on the same site. It was built according to plans by the Viennese architect Franz Macher in the Moorish-Byzantine style.

Today the city museum and the city gallery are housed in the synagogue building. The interior of the synagogue was given to the Jewish Museum in Prague during World War II .
