from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Japanese Football Supercup 2016 was played on February 20, 2016 between the J1 League winner 2015 Sanfrecce Hiroshima and the Imperial Cup winner 2015 Gamba Osaka . After the two teams had already won the title in the previous three years, Sanfrecce was able to prevail in this game and thus win their fourth Supercup after 2008, 2013 and 2014. Gamba, on the other hand, lost for the fourth time in six participations; their victories in 2007 and 2015 contrasted with defeats in 2006, 2009, 2010 and this game.

After a goalless first half, Hisato Satō brought his colors in the lead in the 52nd minute, five minutes later Takuma Asano increased with a penalty . Takashi Usami , Gamba's top scorer in the past three seasons, was able to score the next goal in the 68th minute, but Sanfrecce newcomer Peter Utaka restored the old gap of two goals a little later, which lasted until the end.
