Imperial Cup 2015

The 2016 Kaiser Cup was the 96th edition of the Kaiser Cup , the highest Japanese soccer cup competition. It began on August 27, 2016 with the first round games and traditionally ended on New Year's Day of the following year with the final, which was held in the Suita City Football Stadium due to the new construction of the Tokyo Olympic Stadium . The competition was won by Kashima Antlers , who secured the double after winning the J1 League in 2016 .

The teams in places 5 to 15 of the J1 League 2015 and the champions of the J2 League 2015 entered the competition in the 2nd round; the best four teams in the J1 League joined them in the round of 16.

Remarks

  1. The quarter-finalists of the J. League Cup 2016 , who qualified via the group stage, play on September 7, 2016.
  2. Games with the participation of clubs from J2 or J3 will be postponed to November 9, 2016.

Attendees

A total of 88 teams take part in the competition. In addition to the eighteen clubs of J1 League in 2016 and the 22 teams in the J2 League in 2016 and the Cup Winners of the 47 qualify prefectures in Japan as well as the winners of the University Championship 2015. This is a change to the previous year, when instead of the University Champions of the preliminary round winners of the Japan Football League , the Field of participants completed.
