The Kansai University ( Japanese 関 西 大学 , Kansai daigaku , short: Kandai ( 関 大 )) is a private university in Japan . The main campus is located in Suita in Osaka Prefecture . It is one of the largest private universities in western Japan .
history
The university was founded in 1886 by the Osaka lawyers as the Kansai School of Law ( 関 西 法律 学校 , Kansai hōritsu gakkō ). It was the first law school in Osaka and developed in 1905 into a law and economics college, the Shiritsu Kansai Daigaku ( 私立 関 西 大学 , dt. "Private Kansai College") was called. In 1920 it was renamed Kansai Daigaku , the current name. In 1922 she moved to the Senriyama campus and attained university status. Yamaoka Juntarō ( 山岡 順 太郎 ), the first president, set the motto: "Practicing the sciences" (Japanese 学 の 実 化 , English Academic Practicalization ).
In 1958 the Faculty of Engineering and 1994 the Faculty of Comprehensive Computer Science (in the new Takatsuki Campus) was established. In 2007, the engineering faculty was divided into three technical faculties. In April 2010, two faculties were opened in the new campus (Takatsuki- Muse Campus (Japanese 高 槻 ミ ュ ー ズ キ ャ ン パ ス , Takatsuki myūzu kyampasu ) and Sakai Campus).
