Japuraya Alta is a town in the La Paz department on the Altiplano of the South American Andes high mountains in Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
Japuraya Alta is the largest town in the Ajllata Grande canton in the municipality of Achacachi in the Omasuyos province . The village is located in a local plain about three square kilometers at an altitude of 3902 m in the center of the Huata Peninsula in the southeastern part of Lake Titicaca , surrounded by mountains that rise to over 4500 meters.

The climate in the Japuraya Alta area is derived from the altitude on the Altiplano and the proximity to the large water surface of Lake Titicaca, which mitigates the temperature fluctuations.
The annual average temperature is 11 ° C (see Achacachi climate diagram), with the monthly average in the coldest month (July) at 8 ° C only slightly deviating from the warmest months (November to March) at 12 ° C. The climate is arid from June to August with only sporadic rainfall and humid in the summer months, especially from December to March, with monthly rainfall of more than 100 mm. Transport network
The village is located 108 kilometers by road northwest of La Paz , the capital of the department.
From La Paz, the asphalt national road Ruta 2 leads west to El Alto and further north-west via Vilaque and Palcoco to Batallas . From here the route 2 continues to Copacabana on Lake Titicaca, at Huarina the route 16 branches off to the north, which leads to Achacachi and continues along the Peruvian border into the Bolivian lowlands. From the western edge of Achacachi, an unpaved road leads west to Cachi Lipe , nine kilometers away , and one kilometer from the village a road branches off in a south-westerly direction to Japuraya Alta .
