Jasna Poljana ( Bulgarian Ясна поляна , German [small] bright clearing / forest meadow ) is a village in the south-eastern part of Bulgaria . It is located in the Primorsko municipality in the Burgas Oblast County .

geography

Jasna Poljana is located at the foot of the Strandscha Mountains and along the Djavolska Reka river . The Ropotamo River flows on the northern edge of the village . The ancient forests surrounding the village are called Lungusi by the local population .

In 1970, the second largest reservoir in Burgas Oblast was built southeast of the village . This reservoir provides the drinking water for the south coast of Bulgaria.

history

The old name of the village is Alan Kajrjak, which can be translated as "place to sunbathe ". In the period from 1885 to 1913 the Bulgarian-Turkish border ran south of the village, and there was a border post in the village itself. The village owes its current name to the writer Leo Tolstoy . In the early 20th century, a group of young intellectuals from all parts of Bulgaria founded a “Tolstoy Colony” in this village, which had correspondence with Leo Tolstoy. The commune was heavily involved in village life, and so the village was renamed after the name of Yasnaya Polyana, the birthplace of the writer Leo Tolstoy.
