Jason Kelvin Scotland (born February 18, 1979 in Morvant ) is a football player from Trinidad and Tobago . Scotland is a two-footed striker and currently plays for Barnsley FC in the Football League Championship .

Club career

Scotland began his professional career with San Juan Jabloteh and Defense Force FC in Trinidad. In January 2003 he scored in a friendly match of his home selection against the Scottish first division club Dundee United both goals for the 2-1 victory of his team, because of this performance Dundee United signed a two-year contract with him. Over the next two years he played 40 times for Dundee in the Scottish Premier League, scoring eight goals.

Shortly before his contract expired in early summer 2005, he reached an agreement with the club to extend his engagement for another two years, but the UK Home Office Department refused Scotland permission to work because the Scottish Premier League committee said he was play too seldom in the selection of his homeland. Neither protests from his club nor a petition with more than 3,500 signatories could change anything in the decision, but they probably helped that the Scottish Association of Scotland reported at least as second division qualified to the British immigration authorities. This made it possible to obtain a work permit for this lower class league and the conclusion of a contract with FC St. Johnstone . At the Saints , he immediately established himself as a top striker, with 15 goals in 35 competitive games he was the club's top scorer of the 2005/06 season . After his second season in 2006/07, he was elected to the League's Eleven of the Year.

He went to Swansea City in Football League One . In his first season contributed with 24 goals for promotion to the Football League Championship . In the 2008/09 season he was able to help Swansea City with 21 goals to create the sovereign league preservation. The Swans finished the season in an excellent 8th place.

In July 2009, Scotland moved to Wigan Athletic for £ 2,000,000 . There he has already secured a regular place, although he has not yet appeared regularly as a goal scorer. He scored his first goal on April 4, 2010 against Fulham FC.

On August 23, 2010, he moved to Ipswich Town .

National team

Scotland had already played in their home country's U-23 team when they made their senior national team debut against Panama in November 2000 . After only two short appearances against Grenada in 2001 , in which he also scored his first international goal, he was no longer used until January 2003. In the first half of 2003 he was not absent from any game in his home country. He concentrated on his club career from the summer of 2003, so that Scotland has only played for his home country almost exclusively during the summer break of the British leagues. In total, he played 40 times in A internationals for his country, scoring eight goals. Scotland was in the finals of his home country at the 2006 World Cup in Germany, but was not used.
