Jauhar Saleem

Jauhar Saleem is a Pakistani diplomat and has been his country's ambassador to Germany since the end of 2015 . He heads the Pakistani embassy in Germany , based in the Berlin district of Wilmersdorf .

Education and career

Jauhar Saleem (also Jawhar Salim ) is a graduate of Lahore Government College , the University of Pennsylvania , Johns Hopkins University, and a scholarship from Georgetown University . In these elite institutions he acquired extensive knowledge of diplomacy , literature , economics and political science and obtained numerous Master’s degrees.

His desire to get into foreign policy goes back to his earliest childhood experiences, when his father took him on trips to Europe and America. In 1985 Saleem entered the diplomatic service of the Republic of Pakistan. His ascent took place step by step, first he became an office worker (desk officer) in Islamabad (1986–1987 and 1993–1999), in the meantime his first diplomatic assignments have taken him to the Brazilian capital and the Turkish capital Ankara .

In Pakistan, Saleem was Deputy Chief of Protocol from 1994 to 1997, then took on the post of Director for European Affairs (2003-2005), which was followed by the post of Director General for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) (2006 to 2008 and 2014) . In 2014/2015, he also held the offices of Additional Foreign Secretary and Director General of the Academy for Foreign Service .

Between 2008 and 2011 Jauhar Saleem was his country's ambassador to Bosnia-Herzegovina . The Pakistani government then appointed him as ambassador to Bahrain , where he worked until 2014.

In October 2015 Saleem was appointed ambassador to Germany . He replaced Syed Hasan Javed and was accredited on February 3, 2016 .

In addition to Urdu , he speaks English , Turkish , Portuguese and French . He is married to Zara Jauhar.

During his tenure in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Saleem oversaw a development cooperation project worth five million dollars for the victims of the Srebrenica massacre . In addition, together with interested scientists from this country, he initiated the establishment of a Pakistani professorship at the University of Sarajevo .
