Javad Nurbakhsh
Javad Nurbakhsh ( Persian جواد نوربخش Dschawad Nurbachsch , born December 10, 1926 in Kerman ; † October 10, 2008 in Oxford ) was an Iranian , Muslim mystic ( Sufi ) and a master of the Nematollahi order.
Life
He was born in the Iranian city of Kerman. He later attended the medical faculty at the University of Tehran and received his medical doctorate in 1952 . From 1962 he completed postgraduate studies at the Sorbonne in Paris . He then returned to Tehran, where he completed his studies in psychiatry and later became professor and head of the department of psychiatry at Tehran University until his retirement in 1977 .
Dr. Nurbakhsh was initiated into the Nematollahi order at the age of 16. At the age of 20 he was appointed sheikh (spiritual leader) by his master, Munis'Ali Schah , and after Munis's death he became master of the Nematollahi order. He was 26 years old at the time.
After his death, his son Alireza Nurbakhsh was appointed the new master of the order.
