Javicia Leslie (born May 30, 1987 in Augsburg , Germany ) is an American actress .

Life

Javicia Leslie was born into a military family in Augsburg, Bavaria. As a child, she moved with her family to the US state of Maryland , where she grew up in Upper Marlboro in Prince George's County . After high school , she graduated from Hampton University . There she appeared on stage in the theater productions Seven Guitars , For Colored Girls and Chicago .

From 2015 to 2017 she had a continuous role as "Mo" Monisha in the series Chef Julian . In 2016, she starred in the television movie Killer Coach by Lee Friedlander, in which she played the role of Samantha Morgan. She appeared in two episodes as Jesse Colton on the CBS series MacGyver in 2017/18. In the series The Family Business by Black Entertainment Television (BET) based on the template by Carl Weber , she had another leading role in 2018/19 as Paris Duncan, the youngest daughter of the Duncan family. In 2019, she played the role of Corina James in the romantic comedy Always a Bridesmaid by Trey Haley. From 2018 to 2020 she played the role of Ali Finer in the CBS television series God Friended Me , in the German version she was dubbed by Giovanna Winterfeldt .

In July 2020, it was announced that she would take on the title role in the second season of the series Batwoman and thus succeed Ruby Rose .
