Jayson Patrick Molumby (born August 6, 1999 in Cappoquin ) is an Irish football player who is under contract with the English first division club Brighton & Hove Albion . The midfielder has been an Irish Under-21 international since March 2019 .

Career

Born in Cappoquin , Waterford , Jayson Molumby began his football training with Railway Athletic and spent a brief stint at Villa FC before returning to Railway Athletic in 2014. In July 2015, he joined the Brighton & Hove Albion youth team . In the 2015/16 season he played for the U23 team in the Premier League 2 for the first time and at the age of 16 had already made 13 appearances this season. In the next season 2016/17 he was already an undisputed regular player in the reserve and played 22 competitive games for them.

On August 22, 2017, the midfielder made his debut in the 1-0 league cup win against the lower-class club FC Barnet for the first team of the Seagulls and was on the pitch for the entire game distance. In this 2017/18 season he played another cup game, but was only used in three league games for the U23. In the following season 2018/19 he did not make the leap into the men's team and only played six league games in the U23.

On July 23, 2019 Jayson Molumby joined on loan for the whole season 2019/20 to the second division Millwall FC . He made his debut on August 13, 2019 in a 2-1 league cup win over West Bromwich Albion . He made his league debut for the London club eight days later (4th matchday) in the 4-0 away defeat by Fulham , when he was substituted on for Ben Thompson in the 75th minute of the game . With the Lions he quickly established himself as a regular player and he retained this status until the forced break due to the COVID-19 pandemic . In March 2020, he signed a new 3-1 / 2 year contract with Brighton & Hove Albion. On July 18, 2020 (45th match day), he scored his first goal for Millwall in the 3: 4 away defeat against Queens Park Rangers . During this season he completed 36 league games in which he scored one goal and one assist.

National team

Jayson Molumby played in Ireland's U15 and U16 where he was named Best U16 Player of the Year in 2015. Between September 2015 and April 2016 he played eight international matches for the U17s , in which he scored three times and was the regular captain of the selection. He then played 14 times for the U19s from September 2016 to October 2017 , scoring four goals, including a hat trick in a game against Cyprus .

Molumby has been an Irish U21 international since March 2019 .
