Jazz Band Ball Orchestra (also Jazz Band Ball , JBBO ) is a Polish jazz band . It is considered to be the oldest traditional jazz formation in Poland and was founded in Krakow in November 1962 . The initiator was Jan Kudyk , the founding members were students of the Krakow Music Academy .

history

The Jazz Band Ball Orchestra made its first appearance in the competition of amateur jazz bands of South Poland , which it won. It was awarded a prize from the Ministry of Culture and the Arts. Subsequently, the band performed at professional jazz festivals (including Jazz nad Odrą in Wroclaw , Jazz Jamboree in Warsaw and Old Meeting Jazz in Warsaw). She gave concerts abroad ( Austria , Czechoslovakia , Denmark , France , FRG , GDR , Sweden , United States , Canary Islands ) and took part in international jazz festivals, such as B. North Sea Jazz Festival in The Hague , Dixieland Jazz Jubilee in Sacramento . The band has also appeared several times on Polish television and radio .

The Jazz Band Ball Orchestra worked a. a. with the American trumpeter Wallace Davenport , with whom there were joint concerts at the Jazz Jamboree in 1969 and 1976.

The band's music is a mix of swing and blues . It is based on New Orleans Jazz and is enriched by folklore elements. The band plays both jazz standards and their own compositions.
