Jazz Scene USA
Jazz Scene USA (also Jazz Scene, USA ) was a series of television programs aimed at presenting jazz music and broadcast in the United States in 1962 in episodes of 30 minutes.
History of the series
The short-lived series Jazz Scene USA hosted the jazz singer and radio host Oscar Brown Jr .; Produced by Steve Allen (as executive producer ) and Leonard Feather , directed by Steve Binder. Similar to Ralph J. Gleason's Jazz Casual (1960–1968), the guest musicians were briefly introduced and interviewed by Brown in the half-hour show. Brown was sitting in front of the logo of Shelly Mann's jazz club Manne Hole ; Although the programs were produced in the studio, the impression was to be created that they were broadcasts from the club.
A total of eight episodes of the series were produced in 1962. Steve Allen hoped to continue Jazz Scene USA the following year with a second season of 26 episodes; it was planned to broadcast the program in Great Britain as well. However, the proposed budget turned out to be unrealistic.
In Jazz Scene USA guest appearances Shelly Manne & His Men , the Pete Fountain Sextet, Stan Kenton & His Orchestra, Cannonball Adderley Sextet, Lou Rawls , Shorty Rogers & His Giants, Jimmy Smith Trio, Paul Bryant Quintet and Cal Tjader Quintet, Barney Kessel , Teddy Edwards , the Firehouse Five Plus Two , the Frank Rosolino Quartet, Phineas Newborn Jr., and Nancy Wilson .
