Jean-Baptiste Berthier (born February 24, 1840 in Châtonnay , France , † October 16, 1908 in Grave , Netherlands ) was a French priest and founder of the order .

Life

Jean-Baptiste Berthier was the son of a farmer. In 1862 Berthier joined the order of the Missionaries of Our Lady of La Salette and worked there first at the pilgrimage church in La Salette , a village in the diocese of Grenoble-Vienne in the southern French Alps, and then as a people's missionary in dioceses throughout France . In 1895 he founded the Congregation of Missionaries of the Holy Family (MSF) in Grave for the training of late callers to the priesthood. Berthier wrote 36 theological-ascetic works. His beatification process began in 1953. On May 19, 2018, Pope Francis awarded him the heroic degree of virtue .
