Châtonnay is a French commune with 2,072 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Isère in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes .
geography
Châtonnay is 13 kilometers southwest of Bourgoin-Jallieu . The river Gère flows through the municipality. Châtonnay is located in a forest and lake area.
history
The name "Châtonnay" is etymologically derived from chestnuts ( French châtaigne , Latin Castanea ).

Culture and sights
A flag from 1793 is kept in the Mairie (town hall) of Châtonnay, a flagpole and a bust of Marianne . The flag is considered the symbol of the Republicans of the place. On it is the motto of the Republicans of Châtonnay. It is classified as a Monument historique (historical monument).
Various paraments donated to the Church by Henriette de Lespinay, Comtesse de Bazoges, on the occasion of their wedding in 1777, are kept in the Saint-Pierre church . They are classified as a monument historique .
economy
Important branches of the Chatonnois are timber industry , agriculture and the breeding of domestic cattle and domestic goats .
