It belongs to the Vienne arrondissement and the Vienne-2 canton (until 2015: Vienne-Sud canton ) and the Pays Viennois municipal association . The inhabitants are called Saint-Sorlinois (es) .

Saint-Sorlin-de-Vienne is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Estrablin in the north, Eyzin-Pinet in the east, Montseveroux in the south-east, Châlon in the south, Les Côtes-d'Arey in the west and south-west and Jardin in the north-west.
