Charantonnay is a French commune with 1,911 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Isère in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes ; it belongs to the arrondissement Vienne and the canton La Verpillière (until 2015 canton Heyrieux ). The inhabitants are called Charantonnois .

Charantonnay is 32 kilometers southeast of Lyon . Charantonnay is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Georges-d'Espéranche in the north and north-west, Roche in the north-east, Artas in the east, Saint-Jean-de-Bournay in the south-east, Royas in the south and Beauvoir-de-Marc in the west and south-west.
