Gillonnay is 35 kilometers southeast of Vienne . Gillonnay is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Mottier in the north, Saint-Hilaire-de-la-Côte in the east, Brézins in the south and La Côte-Saint-André in the west.

A small part of Grenoble Airport is in the southeast of the municipality.
