La Forteresse ( Occitan : La Fortalesa ) is a French municipality with 322 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Isère in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes ; administratively it belongs to the arrondissement Vienne and is part of the canton Bièvre (until 2015: canton Saint-Étienne-de-Saint-Geoirs ).

La Forteresse is located about 28 kilometers west-northwest of Grenoble at the foot of the Chartreuse massif and in the valley of the small river Rival . La Forteresse is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Plan in the north, Saint-Paul-d'Izeaux in the northeast, Tullins and Morette in the east, Cras in the southeast, Vatilieu in the south, Quincieu in the south and southwest and Saint-Geoirs in the west and northwest.
