La Frette is located about 36 kilometers northwest of Grenoble at the foot of the Chartreuse massif . La Frette is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Longechenal in the north, Bévenais in the east, Sillans in the southeast, Saint-Étienne-de-Saint-Geoirs in the south and southwest and Saint-Hilaire-de-la-Côte in the west.
