Chanas is a French commune with a population of 2,589 (as at 1st January 2017) in the department of Isère in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Vienne and the canton of Roussillon . The inhabitants are called Chanasien (ne) s .

geography

Chanas is about 25 kilometers south of Vienne . The partially canalized Rhone flows to the west of Chanas and its tributary Dolon to the south . Chanas is surrounded by the neighboring communities Salaise-sur-Sanne in the north, Agnin in the northeast, Bougé-Chambalud in the east, Saint-Rambert-d'Albon in the south, Peyraud in the southwest and Sablons in the west.

The Autoroute A7 and Route nationale 7 as well as the former Route nationale 82 run through the municipality .
