Jean-Baptiste Djebbari-Bonnet (born February 26, 1982 in Melun , Département Seine-et-Marne ) is a French politician ( LREM ). He has been State Secretary or Minister for Transport since 2019 .

life and career

Djebarris paternal family is of Kabyle origin, his great-grandfather came in 1914 to France. Jean-Baptiste Djebarri grew up as the son of a Fnac seller and a housewife in Melun. He has been playing rugby since he was 12. He graduated from the École nationale de l'aviation civile (Enac) in Toulouse, where he was the best of his year.

He then worked as an air traffic controller for the French aviation authority DGAC and as a business aircraft pilot for NetJets . He temporarily returned to DGAC, where he was responsible for economic development. In this position, he first met the then Minister of Economic Affairs, Emmanuel Macron , in 2015 . Before moving into politics, he was flight operations director at the Luxembourg company Jetfly and also worked as a judicial expert for aviation issues at the Cour d'appel in Paris.

At the suggestion of Pierre Person , Djebbari Macron, previously largely politically inexperienced, joined the new party La République en Marche (LREM) and was a candidate for the 2017 parliamentary elections in the 2nd constituency of the Vienne department . With 54% of the vote, he won the election in the second ballot and became a member of the National Assembly . There he was coordinator of the LREM group in the Committee on Sustainable Development and Spatial Planning until he joined the government in 2019.

In September 2019 he was appointed State Secretary for Transport. In this position he was subordinate to the Minister for the Ecological and Solidarity Transition Élisabeth Borne . At the end of 2019, he had to cope with the strike of workers in the transport sector against the pension reform. In the Castex cabinet , which has been in office since July 2020, Djebbari continues to be responsible for transport, but has the title of Minister Associate .
