Jean-Baptiste Théodon (* 1645 in Vendrest , today in the Seine-et-Marne department , † 1713 in Paris ) was a French baroque sculptor .

Life

Théodon received his training in Versailles and at the Gobelin Manufactory . Jean-Baptiste Colbert promoted him to the Académie de France à Rome in 1675 , where Théodon's talent was also noticed by ecclesiastical dignitaries. The artist stayed in Rome for almost 30 years, working on the figural decoration of the Lateran basilica and St. Peter's Basilica . After Théodon's final return to France (1705), he worked on the design of Versailles - above all on the royal chapel - as well as on that of the Invalides .
