Kaupert first studied theology in Jena before settling down as a teacher in Nyon in 1811 and later in Morges . In 1817 he received Swiss citizenship. Under the influence of the Wetziker School , inspired by Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi , Kaupert published the first French-language folk song collection Chant national suisse with 14 songs in 1830 . His folk song courses in Geneva , Lausanne and Morges formed the basis for the popular song movement initiated by Hans Georg Nägeli to spread from German-speaking Switzerland to French -speaking Switzerland .
