Jean-Charles de Coucy (born September 23, 1746 in Château d'Escordat , Rethel , Ardennes , † March 9, 1824 in Reims ) was a French clergyman, bishop of La Rochelle and archbishop of Reims .

Life

He came from the Caucy-Pollecourt line and was the son of Charles-Nicolas de Gallebaut and his wife Marie-Anne du Bois de Lauberelle. In 1777 he became almsman to the Queen of France and Commendatabab of the wealthy Igny Abbey near Reims . On August 16, 1789 he was by Louis XVI. appointed Bishop of La Rochelle, confirmation by Pope Pius VI. took place on December 14 of the same year. From 1797 to 1801 he lived in exile in Spain. However , he did not resign himself to the diocese of La Rochelle until 1816 after he had prospects of being appointed Archbishop of Reims. However, his enthronement was delayed by the resistance that accompanied the Concordat of 1817, so that he was finally able to actually take possession of the archbishopric in 1821.

He died almost three years after his enthronement as Archbishop of Reims.
