Life

Arnault said he came to Sweden for the first time in 1965. In the late 1960s he studied photography in Stockholm. In 1978 he founded Stockholm's music-dramatic ensemble, for which he worked as a director.

Affair over Kulturforum and conviction for rape

Together with his wife Katarina Frostenson , a Swedish poet and writer who was a member of the Swedish Academy , Arnault ran a cultural forum in Stockholm, in which literary evenings and intercultural events were organized. The forum closed in late 2017 when Arnault was accused of sexual harassment and assault. For the forum he is said to have accepted funds from the academy, which Frostenson helped to decide. In addition, before the official announcement of Nobel Prize winners for literature , he is said to have divulged their names in advance in seven cases. The newspaper Dagens Nyheter named Wisława Szymborska , Elfriede Jelinek , Harold Pinter , Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clézio , Patrick Modiano , Svetlana Alexijewitsch and Bob Dylan from legal papers . This led to a serious crisis in the Swedish Academy . On June 12, 2018, Arnault was charged with two cases of rape. In the first instance he was sentenced by Stockholms Tingsrätt on October 1, 2018, to two years in prison and 115,000 kroner in pain and suffering for a case of rape . Both the prosecution and the defense appealed against the judgment calling a. On December 3, 2018, the judgment was confirmed in the second instance by the Svea hovrätt . The sentence was increased to two and a half years in prison and 215,000 kroner in pain and suffering for two cases of rape. The Swedish Supreme Court dismissed Arnault's appeal on May 7, 2019.

On January 22, 2019, the Swedish Economic Crime Bureau announced that the investigation against Arnault regarding the funds that had flowed into the forum had been suspended, as the expected sentence if convicted was well below the two and a half years in prison to which Arnault had already been sentenced .

In December 2019, Arnault was released conditionally.
