Jean-Claude D'Arménia (born September 20, 1940 in Port Said / Egypt , † May 10, 2018 in Réunion ) was a French football player and coach .

Career

The goalkeeper , who had British citizenship and later adopted French, initially played as an amateur for SM Caen . In 1961 he moved to the second division AS Troyes-Savinienne , with whom he narrowly missed promotion. He was able to attract attention there, so that in 1962 Stade Rennais UC signed him . There he played - despite the competition that arose from 1963 in ex-national goalkeeper Georges Lamia - in the following two years 60 matches in Division 1 ; However , the Bretons were far from winning the championship or cup at this time.

In 1964, the new coach of the Stade Reims , which had just crashed into the second division , Robert Jonquet , brought him to Champagne . Although with Raymond Kopa and François Heutte two former national players were in the ranks of the Red-Whites, the attempt at immediate resurgence failed; this only succeeded a year later, albeit initially only for one season (1966/67). The goalkeeper also scored his only first division goal this season - but it was an own goal that gave Reims a 1-0 defeat at Toulouse FC . After three more years in the second division, D'Arménia returned to the top division with Reims in 1970. In the summer of 1971 he ended his playing career after 301 professional appearances, 124 of them in the first and 177 in the second division.

Then Jean-Claude D'Arménia completed a trainer training . In this new role he stayed with Stade Reims, became assistant coach to Pierre Flamion in 1977 and took over the training of the first team in 1978, which in 1979 had to be relegated from Division 1 again.
