Jean-Valentin Bender
Jean-Valentin Bender (born September 19, 1801 in Bechtheim near Worms , † April 14, 1873 in Brussels ) was a German - Belgian conductor and composer .
Life
As a trained clarinetist, he worked in various, initially Dutch , then French and finally Belgian military orchestras. In the second half of 1832, Bender, who had been Kapellmeister in the music corps of the 1st Belgian Line Regiment since 1830, was personally commissioned by the Belgian King Leopold I to set up a music corps to musically accompany the changes in the royal guard (guard battalion). Since the music corps of the 1st Gidsen Regiment often accompanied the royal family on their trips abroad, they received the honorable title of Partikuliere Muziekkapel van de Koning , now a selected brass orchestra Groot Harmonieorkest van de Belgische Gidsen in Brussels . Bender was the conductor of this orchestra until 1873, which to this day finishes every concert with the Marche du Premier Régiment de Guides von Bender.
In 1836 Bender was also appointed director of the Société Philharmonique in Brussels .
family
Valentin Bender was the younger brother of the clarinetist Jakob Bender (* 1798), with whom he often appeared. He himself married on September 26, 1837 in Brussels Marie-Henriette Opdenbosch (born July 21, 1810 in Brussels), the daughter of the butcher Henri Opdenbosch.
