Jean Baptiste Gaspard Roux de Rochelle
Jean Baptiste Gaspard Roux de Rochelle (born March 26, 1762 in Lons-le-Saunier , † March 1849 in Paris ) was a French geographer, author and diplomat .
Roux de Rochelle held a leading position at the Quai d'Orsay before he was appointed French envoy to the Hanseatic cities based in Hamburg in September 1825 . Under Secretary of State Jules de Polignac , he was promoted to envoy to the United States in 1830, based in Washington, DC . Roux de Rochelle was a member of numerous scientific societies, u. a. of the Société de Géographie , Paris, and is known for some of his cultural-geographic publications.
