Jean Becker (director)
Jean Louis Paul Becker (born May 10, 1933 in Paris ) is a French film director and screenwriter .
Jean Becker began his career in 1953 as an assistant director to his father Jacques Becker . He also worked as an assistant director with Julien Duvivier and Henri Verneuil . This was followed by three directorial works with Jean-Paul Belmondo in the leading role from 1961 to 1966 , the latter film, Beloved Scoundrel , was a failure, so that Becker retired as a film director. It was not until 1983 that he returned as a director with A Murderous Summer . His film received several César awards and nominations. Twelve years later the father-and-daughter drama Elisa followed with Gérard Depardieu and Vanessa Paradis in the leading roles and in 1999 A Summer in the Country a tragic comedy about French country life. In 2001 Becker directed Un crime au paradis and in 2003 Effroyables jardins .
