Becker's grave in Mannheim

Becker lived in a villa above the Neckar that had its own concert hall. Here he held concerts in front of a large audience every Sunday. The Stradivarius violin from 1685 he played is called “Ex. Jean Becker ”. He left behind some compositions, such as a serenade for violin, violoncello and piano.

In Mannheim in 1886 Karl Friedrich Moest erected a memorial in his honor in the palace garden , which no longer exists. In addition, Jean-Becker-Strasse was named after him in 1893.

He was married to Berta Seib (1833–98). His children Hans, Hugo and Jeanne also took part in his quartet concerts. His son Hugo Becker became a cellist and composer. His son Hans Becker became a violinist and played 2nd violin in the Brodsky String Quartet. There is a memorial plaque on the house where he was born, S2, 8 ; the Jean Becker house on Mittelstrasse no longer exists. On his grave in the main cemetery in Mannheim is an epitaph made of yellow sandstone with ear framing, a segmental arch coronation and shell ornaments.
