Jean Gérard de Poitiers
Jean Gérard de Poitiers (* approx. 1368 ; † 1452 ) was a French prelate of the 14th and 15th centuries. He was the son of Charles, Seigneur de Saint-Vallier and Simonne de Méry. His brother was Charles de Poitiers , Bishop of Châlons and Langres .
Jean de Poitiers was provost of the Church of Saint-Omer and was elected Bishop of Valence in 1390 . In addition, he was rector of the Comtat Venaissin . His nephew Louis succeeded him as Bishop of Valence.
After the death of the Archbishop of Vienne, Geoffroy de Vassali in 1448, Louis XI tried . to install Jean de Poitiers in his place, meanwhile Bishop of Valence and Die . When Pope Eugene IV died, Nicholas V decided - regardless of his papal decree - for Jean de Castre to succeed Vassali. However, the Dauphin did not give in on this matter and nevertheless installed Jean de Poitiers.
The archbishop drew up a new 52 article church ordinance. In 1450 Jean de Poitiers had to cede half of the secular jurisdiction in Vienne and the county to Ludwig . The Dauphin reserved the appointment of the prior and all other appointments to his officials ( vibailli ). He left the jurisdiction of the monasteries to the canons of Saint-Maurice . This division of jurisdiction was retained until 1793.
