Jean Jacques Boudet , better known as Abbé Henri Boudet (born November 16, 1837 in Quillan , † March 26, 1915 in Axat ) was a French priest and writer. His publications are assigned to the area of esotericism .

Act

Boudet was ordained a priest in the Diocese of Carcassonne in 1861 . From 1872 to 1914 he worked in the municipality of Rennes-les-Bains . His private interests were linguistic research, especially the Celtic languages. He authored a book called The True Language of the Celts and the Kromlech of Rennes-les-Bains , which is referred to in publications by other authors. Furthermore, private records of him are known, but these were only published in further literature after his death.

Today, Boudet is mainly associated with Bérenger Saunière , who was pastor in Rennes-le-Château at the same time . Authors such as Robert Howells , Lynn Picknett and Clive Prince as well as Henry Lincoln with Michael Baigent and Richard Leigh and a few more pursue the thesis that Boudet and Saunière were involved in a conspiracy to find the Holy Grail .

The book

Boudet collected place names and names from the area around Rennes-les-Bains. He compared this with the English language. He believed that English was the original Celtic language that had existed since the biblical fathers. The book also contains maps with the names researched.

The first edition date of La Vraie langue celtique et le Cromleck de Rennes-les-Bains is 1886, but several editions have appeared over the years. In addition to an English translation, there have been two independent German translations since 2007 and 2009.

The theory of modern literature

Boudet's role in the story of the riddle of Rennes-le-Château is not entirely clear; but in general it would be accorded a special meaning. Allegedly, many researchers consider Boudet to be the actual catalyst for the mysterious events - and the reason for Saunière's wealth. Boudet's ledgers from 1891 to 1893 and from 1895 to 1901 are said to contain transfers for Saunière's housekeeper, Marie Dérnanaud, worth a total of 3,679,431 francs in gold.

Boudet is said to have been considered learned. He should have a perfect command of Greek, Latin, English and (Old or Angel) Saxon. His behavior as a pastor in Rennes-les-Bains is said to have been considered rather strange: for example, he is said to have changed the grave of Abbé Jean Vié by giving a wrong date of death.

For the first time, Boudet is said to have been confronted with the family secret of the Blanchefort through his predecessor Jean Vie and one of his teachers, Abbé Emile-François Cayron. The pastor is said to have studied the mountains and valleys in the area together with his brother Edmond in hours of walking. The nearby Rennes-le-Château is allegedly not mentioned in any of his writings. His writing activity is also said to be a mystery. His book La vraie langue celtique is said to contain mysteries.

According to the original edition, the book was published in 1886 by François Pomiès; The publishing house is said to have ceased to exist at this point in time: it is said to have been closed in 1880. Two different versions of the book are said to have existed. The bishop is said to have protested vehemently against the book; Instead, a colleague is said to have declared: "The Abbé Boudet knows a secret that could cause the greatest upheaval." The book itself is said to be written in a cryptic key. Boudet writes in the foreword: "... penetrate the secret of a local history by interpreting a name formed in a foreign language ..."
