NGC 6283 is a 12.9 mag bright spiral galaxy of the Hubble type S? in the constellation Hercules . It is estimated to be 57 million light years from the Milky Way .
It was discovered on April 13, 1788 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who described it as "vF, cS, iR".
