NGC 6297 = NGC 6298 is a 13.6 mag bright, lens-shaped galaxy of the Hubble-type S0 in the constellation Dragon in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 232 million light-years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 50,000 ly
. a. the galaxies NGC 6292 and NGC 6299 .
The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on July 8, 1885 . Due to different descriptions, Swift's second observation on August 1, 1885 under NGC 6298 also led to a second entry in the catalog.
