NGC 6307 is a 12.9 mag bright lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type SB0 / a in the constellation Dragon in the northern sky . It is an estimated 145 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 55,000 light years in diameter. Together with NGC 6306 , it forms the gravitationally bound galaxy pair Holm 769 or KPG 504 .
In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy NGC 6310 .
The object was discovered by Heinrich Louis d'Arrest on October 27, 1861 .
